Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018
The 2018 Farm Bill, officially known as the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, significantly altered the landscape for hemp in the United States. This legislation removed hemp (defined as cannabis with less than 0.3% THC) from the Controlled Substances Act, thereby legalizing the cultivation, production, and sale of hemp and hemp-derived products at the federal level. This change allowed hemp farmers to gain access to essential services like banking, insurance, and federal grants, which were previously unavailable due to hemp’s classification as a controlled substance.
